A Simple Guide To Self-Care For Seniors

self-care

Learn how to practice self-care on a daily basis.

Whether you live by yourself independently or receive assistance from a caregiver, it is essential that you practice some form of self-care.  On a daily basis, you need to set a regiment to establish and maintain your health as well as prevent illness.  Seniors have a lower immune system and are more susceptible to illness than other adults, so it is critical that you know to take care of yourself well.  You should follow these few simple tips to practicing self-care daily.

Sleep Well

When it comes self-care, it is essential that you get at least seven to nine hours of sleep each night.  Unfortunately, many seniors do not get enough sleep because they tend not to receive deep sleep resulting in waking up throughout the night.  Getting a good night’s rest is vital to preventing depression and other illnesses. Regular exercise and a healthy diet are a few factors that assist at getting proper sleep.

Hobbies

One of the best ways to practice self-care is to find a hobby that you love and practicing it regularly throughout the week.  Finding an activity that your passionate about and taking some time for yourself are critical to maintaining your mental health.  Finding a hobby as simple as drawing or making puzzles is a great way to practice self-care. Try to find an activity that you can do with your caregiver or a loved one.

Healthy Diet

It is critical that you maintain a healthy diet on a regular basis so that you nourish your body and mind.  You want to cook for yourself as much as possible, so you can watch what you are putting into your body. If you are not able to cook for yourself, then have a caregiver or loved one prepare your meals.
