Medicare covers a lot of important healthcare services for senior citizens. From hospital stays with Part A to prescription drugs with Part D, Medicare offers fairly comprehensive health coverage for people 65 years of age and older.
However, there are a number of goods and services that Original Medicare (Parts A,B, and D) does not cover. We’ll talk about them below. You might be surprised to learn that many of these things that Medicare doesn’t cover are things that almost every senior will need at some point. But is there a way to get healthcare coverage for these items? Actually, there is. Learn more in this week’s blog.
3 Things Medicare Doesn’t Cover
As you age, the quality of your vision slowly declines. This is a natural part of the process of aging, and is in most cases easily remedied with glasses, contact lenses, or other vision care solutions.
However, Original Medicare won’t cover any of your vision needs. Things like new lens prescriptions, or Lasik eye surgery can get expensive, but you won’t be able to pay for them through Original Medicare.
In addition to your vision, the quality of your hearing declines as you age. This is also easy to address with hearing aids. Unfortunately, don’t expect Original Medicare to pay for them.
Dental care is another thing that every senior needs. Many seniors require dental care such as root canals, treatment for gum disease, or dentures, all of which can be expensive. However, Original Medicare will not pay for any of these services.
Medicare Advantage Covers All of These
Medicare Advantage, also known as Medicare Part C, is an alternative to Original Medicare, and is available to anyone 65+. A large number of Medicare Advantage plans offer coverage for vision, hearing, and dental care.
So while you won’t find coverage for these services with Original Medicare, there’s a good chance you will find coverage for them with Medicare Advantage. Interested in learning more? Talk to Global Premier Benefits today!
