Millions of Americans are at risk for the number one deadliest disease in America, diabetes. Many of the common results of this terrible disease are kidney failure, amputations, and even blindness. Many people who suffer from diabetes are not even aware that they have it, leading to a myriad of problems for those people. Wouldn’t you want to know if you were in danger of suffering from such a deadly disease?
What Is Diabetes?
There are two types: type 1 and type 2. Type 1 is genetic and unfortunately is not preventable, however, treatment is available and most people survive and live healthy lives with type 1 diabetes. Type 2, which is the kind that is preventable, actually the most common when compared to type 1. Known as adult-onset diabetes, type 2 diabetes can be prevented by adjusting some lifestyle choices and choosing a more healthier way of living.
What Is Prediabetes?
Before people end up developing the full-blown type 2 diabetes, they first must develop prediabetes. This means that these people have extremely high blood glucose levels but not quite yet able to be labeled as diabetes. The good news is that people within this category are able to make choices to better their health and eliminate their risk of diabetes.
The healthiest way to prevent your risk of developing type 2 diabetes is to be more active. Studies have shown that at least thirty minutes of active exercise can reduce your risk of developing diabetes significantly. By eating a variety of foods every day including whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, you can reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. In other words, you don’t have to overhaul your life to reduce your chance of developing diabetes.
